Instructional Illustration & Content Design

This is an instructional illustration and guide created for hospitals in rural Sub-Saharan Africa. While most doctors in these areas speak English, some medical terminology commonly used here in the United States isn’t considered plain language in rural Ghana or Kenya. So with the help of the engineers at Sisu, and the many amazing doctors they work with abroad, I developed a detailed, step-by-step guide (with graphic illustrations) on how to use the device for patients experiencing massive blood loss.
Utilizing the same user-interview methods we began with, almost a decade later Sisu continues to adapt and refine their content for specific use cases. Currently, the Hemafuse (and it's directions) are being used for emergency situations such as the battlefield in the Ukraine war, or, most commonly, for people experiencing ectopic pregnancies and in areas where accessing donor blood is difficult.
